Interior Design that Embraces Authenticity

Tricia Turk Helps You Discover Your Unique Style

Don’t hire Tricia Turk if you want your living room to mimic the one you saw on Pinterest. Turk Interiors wants your home to look like you.

It’s about authenticity.

“Hiring an interior designer is not for everybody,” Turk said. “But those who do see the value and understand that it’s more than just picking out a sofa and a coffee table. There’s layers to it. You want your space to reflect you and tell your story.”

A Winding Road to Colorado Springs

The youngest of five children, Turk grew up in Massachusetts and spent her summers on Cape Cod. She married an Air Force officer and traveled the world with him and, eventually, their two sons for more than two decades.

They lived in Virginia, Alabama, California, Texas, Utah and Germany before finally landing in Colorado Springs in 2011. Her husband retired from the Air Force in 2013 and they decided to make the Pikes Peak region their permanent home.

Turk jumped at the opportunity to officially launch the interior design business she had been flirting with for years. It was a chance to combine everything she had learned in college (B.S. in clothing and textiles) with decades of real-life experiences and travel.

Turk’s Influences

Having grown up on the coast, Turk draws much of her inspiration from ocean colors, water and sand.

And Colorado? “The mountains are the like the ocean in that they look different every day,” Turk said. “There is always a variation in color and texture and depth. It never looks the same two days in a row, which I find very inspiring. It’s a new day, fresh start.”

Travel has added depth to her design visions.

Take the coast of Italy. “I just love the vibrant colors, the simplicity of the food, the architecture is just layered and old and it’s mixed with new.  It’s not overly done. It’s just quaint.”

And in February 2020, she traveled to Morocco. There, she admired the craftsmanship, tilework and natural dyes used for pottery.

The Value of Authenticity

Do you know your style?

Many people don’t think they do – until they sit down with a pro like Turk. She’ll help you dig deep to sort it out. Let’s say you have an antique piece. She might ask why it is valuable to you. Why you keep it. What the story is behind it.

“I make it personal. I make it about them and not about my personal taste,” she said. “I strive to make sure that when we are finished and I leave, that it is a space they are proud of.”

Turk says living with authenticity means your room will speak to you.

“It’s not a catalog space,” she said.

Items close to your heart can be part of a beautiful design, she said. Those details help tell your story.

“You can mix the Italian pottery with the French antique with the color scheme that you grew up on the plains of Oklahoma.”

Anything goes when you’re creating a room with personality. With authenticity. That’s why every project with Turk looks different. No matter how much you love a friend’s kitchen, that kitchen should not be in your home. Why? Because someone else’s kitchen does represent who you are.

Embrace the Design Process

OK. Let’s say you have a room that must have looked amazing for another family in the 1980s. How do you go about shepherding it into 2021 with a style all your own?

Give Turk Interiors a call. The first step is a complimentary 30-minute phone consult. Turk will ask why you called, what the “pain points” are in your current design and what you’re generally hoping to achieve.

If you decide to take the next step, it would be a $395 in-home consult of up to two hours. Turk will visit with you, look around, ask countless questions, take notes and work with you to pin down your style and priorities.

Finally, she’ll write up a design fee proposal that outlines the scope of the project and what her design fees would be, as well as minimum expenditures for materials, furniture and the like.

New home? Great. Remodel? Even better! Turk works with numerous vendors, general contractors and even an organizer to help transform a space into your unique vision of beauty.

Turk won't ask you to choose a “theme” for your design. “That’s generic and it’s not speaking to who they are,” Turk said. Instead, she'll help you create the perfect identity for your room – one layer at a time.
