From Humble Beginnings to a Hopeful Future

Hope Clinic’s Mission to Heal Collin County’s Uninsured

“I have been told since I do not have insurance, I could not be served” stated Beth, a patient at Hope Clinic in McKinney. Eventually, a friend referred Beth to Hope Clinic and things began to change. She began receiving the medical care she desperately needed. The vision of Hope Clinic is to become the full-time medical home for over 1,000 uninsured and under-resourced residents each year in Collin County. They strive to create a space where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and love while delivering high-quality medical, wellness, and spiritual care. Hope Clinic seeks to transform the lives of its patients by treating the whole person and building lasting relationships. Jenny Konvicka, the Director of Patient Services, has been with Hope Clinic since its inception in 2014. Konvicka has been lifelong friends with Caitlin Twyman, the wife of Dr. Stephen Twyman, who are the co-founders of Hope Clinic. She jumped on board to help create a plan to serve the 12% of McKinney residents who were uninsured, specifically focusing on the East side of town where the numbers were even higher. Their goal was to “be like Jesus and meet patients where they are and serve however we can”. Over the next few years, this small group of like-minded individuals with big hearts formed a team of volunteers and partners to bring their mission of Hope and Healing to life.

Hope Clinic began operations one day a week at the Baptist Immigration Center in July 2017. By 2018, clinic operations expanded to 2 days. And in September 2019, Hope Clinic relocated to its current location, which is a dedicated, permanent clinic space on E. Lamar. Hope Clinic is now in the process of expanding its current space from 1,700 to 3,000 square feet. The added space will allow the clinic to relocate the optometry and staff offices, add more private offices for counseling services, along with space to expand the lab. This expansion will ultimately cut in half the new patient waitlist of four to six weeks. Furthermore, it will help in expanding the physician position to full-time and increasing options for community partnerships like flu clinics. Hope Clinic’s goal is to continue to grow operations over the next three years to be able to see patients six days a week.
