Mayor's Message

Focused On Industry Partnership: Go Mean Green

Groundbreaking construction is underway for creating UNT Frisco, which will anchor a trailblazing, innovative educational and business hub on 150 acres of land. The upcoming branch campus is located near the Dallas North Tollway.

"We're enthralled to help drive such a new, inspirational force. This is certainly a milestone that makes us proud," says Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney.

During 2016, UNT started a satellite campus in Frisco, which offers select courses serving about 900 students. The university currently occupies multiple sites in the city to accommodate the fast-growing area of Collin County -- a locale that's basically doubled its population in nearly two decades to almost 1 million residents.

Jeff says non-traditional students are a significant part of the UNT Frisco population, including full-time working students, adults who are returning to higher education and junior college graduates.

The university implements degree programs that involve “cohorts,” or teams of students that work to solve problems for industry partners, says the mayor. Students learn curriculum as they handle real-life business challenges, along with how to interact as a team and be leaders.

The future campus is expected to open fully during the fall of 2022. "UNT has already been 'all in' on Frisco, and we look forward to the partnership continuing to grow," proclaims Jeff.
