Subtle Changes in Fall Hair Trends

Chad Rookstool of Kevin Charles Salons intimately understands style, predicting even the most subdued trends in hair this fall season.

As co-owner of the luxurious salon in the new Hilltop Plaza, across from SMU in Dallas’s exclusive Park Cities, the 20-year veteran lives on the cutting edge when it comes to hair and seasonal shifts.

What’s trending now?  “A variety of very subtle modifications,” says Rookstool.  “Styles don’t change much – you’re either straight or wavy. Color is where we see the most change, particularly as we get into (a new season).”

Typically, as Summer ends Rookstool says women make changes. “It’s always brighter in the summertime and toned down in the fall,” he explains.

He says clients are busier, thus keeping up with the maintenance can be tough … so he suggests leaning towards “low maintenance blonde,” adding low lights of golds and coppers.

Rookstool says brunettes are moving towards chestnuts and mahoganies. “Standard fall colors … light golds.” But overall, he sees no radical new colors or cuts.  “I have noticed women are changing hair around their face--changing the look without taking any length.”

Are there specific trends that have finally run their course? “The Ombre is done. The Graduated Bob, we do hardly any of that. It’s like anything … it’s cool while it’s here.”
