The HeShed

GarageCondos offer versatile spaces to store, work, and play!

Garages are adaptable spaces. Some people have very organized spaces, and some have chaotic, catch-all spaces. Garages hold everything from tools to keepsake items to cars, but they typically aren’t thought of as a comfortable place to hang out— until now. Glenn McWilliams, the owner of GarageCondos, expands the vision of what it means to have a garage.

Yes, these man (or woman) caves are suitable for storing and working on multiple cars, but they hold several other possibilities as well. People utilize GarageCondos as office spaces, places to lounge while watching television, and, in the case of Bill Trombley, indoor batting cages.

“The units give you the room to do what you want,” Bill, who owns four units, says. “My two girls play competitive softball. The cages give the girls and their teammates a place to practice.”

According to Glenn, GarageCondos have a key quality that makes them unique aside from their convenient 24/7/365 access.

“Ownership fuels most of our buyers. As far as I know, we’re one of the only companies who sell storage units like this,” Glenn says.

That means that the Garage Condos build equity, appreciate, and can be rented out just like a regular home. The only thing you can’t do is live inside of one— though that doesn’t mean that Glenn hasn’t caught people trying! Owners also have access to several amenities, including water and wash down areas, an air/vac station, an RV dump, common area restrooms, and a private clubhouse.

Sandy Rufenacht appreciates that his garage condo gives him a place to go after work and on the weekends. As the son of a Ford dealer, Sandy’s love affair with cars goes way back. He stores his high school car, a completely restored ‘69 Mustang Fastback with a 700 horsepower engine, in his unit.

“It is the perfect location and the perfect atmosphere for car guys,” Sandy says.

The mezzanine of Sandy’s immaculate unit is aptly dubbed ‘The Boneyard’ after the student section at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Husker memorabilia adorns the walls and provides the perfect atmosphere to sit back and watch a game.

Aside from personal spaces, GarageCondos offers options for businesspeople as well. Glenn recognized the desire many people had to run a business out of the condos, so they created the Business Flex Unit. They are specially set up to offer more parking and signage.

“This way, business people have a more affordable, smaller space they can purchase instead of just renting,” Glenn says.
