Housewarming Hope

Denver Rescue Mission organizes supply boxes for families in need

This past year, Denver Rescue Mission’s Family Rescue Ministries rehoused six families right here in Westminster. These families all received relational, educational, and financial assistance to help them obtain and sustain housing. Participants in both Family Rescue Ministries and Family Refugee Services are often single mothers and families from other countries with minimal relational or resource support.

In order to help these families focus on paying rent and buying groceries when settling into their new homes, the mission’s Housewarming Box Program provides them with all the basics to make a home livable: sheets, cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, and more. Boxes also come with basic hygiene needs like towels, razors, and soap.

Specific shopping lists make boxes easy to create, and they cost between $150-$200 to purchase everything needed. The mission hopes to distribute 450 boxes this year.

While the boxes supply many of the essentials for daily living, most importantly, they also provide hope and encouragement to families who have worked hard for a brand new start.
