Maureen Juip

Women of Interest Profile

People who know Maureen Juip, a member of the Grosse Pointe City Council, wonder how she accomplishes so much. It’s clear she’s always been an achiever, having earned a chemical engineering degree and an MBA from the University of Michigan to start her professional career

After working in companies such as BASF, she paused her work in the business world to raise a family of five children here in Grosse Pointe. Her family includes two children who suffer from Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease. Juip offers her services as a parent advocate for that organization and raises money for research and awareness.

Today Juip is using her skills and talents honed as a mother and a businesswoman in her role with City Council. “I am enthusiastic about working with the Council that that does so much for the community.”

Through the Council’s work, Grosse Pointe has been designated as a “Michigan Main Street Community” by the MEDC. Juip explains “The MEDC can help revitalize our historic businesses by using concepts and programs that will attract and retain the best people and ideas.” She adds that “Grosse Pointe intends to maintain a competitive advantage that prevails over challenges and changes.”

One of Juip’s favorite activities is serving as the Council Liaison to the “City of Grosse Pointe Foundation”, a privately funded 5OI(c)(3). “I enjoy participating in the foundation projects because they provide value that do not cost taxpayers’ dollars. The improvements beautify and strengthen areas that aren’t found in city budgets.” Some of the foundation’s projects include installing 1,100 bricks surrounding walkways, erecting decorative street signs, and recently, presenting Neff Park with binoculars to enhance citizens’ views of Lake St. Clair.

Additionally, despite her duties with family, children, and volunteering for many nonprofits, she also finds time to volunteer as a member of the City Council.
