Favorite CT Eats for Fairfield County
There’s a stunning quantity of excellent food in Fairfield County. Here are 10 spots that keep me coming back.
Rosina’s, Greenwich: Brought to you by Chef Jared Falco, this serious biz classic Italian spot recently opened in Byram with beautiful handmade pastas, wood fired pizza, and a cocktail menu from one of the best bartenders in CT. Don’t miss the Lasagna Verde and Rigatoni with Braised Pork & Beans.
Don Memo, Westport: Bill Taibe’s take on authentic Mexican reveals his passion for this cuisine and culture. Taibe and Chef Anthony Kostelis' creative takes on classic Mexican dishes feature seasonal ingredients, vibrant flavors, and homemade tortillas, alongside an extensive Tequila- and Mezcal-based cocktail program.
Hinoki, Greenwich: This newcomer from the folks at MIKU Sushi (also in Greenwich) combines Dim Sum, clean authentic Chinese entrees, sushi tacos and beautiful sushi. The bar is hopping on the weekends and the dumplings are banging!
OKO, Westport: Westport rejoiced when Chef Brian Lewis brought Nobu quality sushi and a full Japanese inspired restaurant to Westport. Leveraging both the local CT farms as well as the Tsukiji fish market in Japan, every bite here is a choreographed balancing act of flavors and textures.
South End The Back End, New Canaan: This ain't your average Mexican joint. Get prepped for Chef Nick Martschenko’s elevated take on Mexican fare, with über-creative, well balanced, artfully prepared dishes. Don’t miss Executive Chef Moises’ incredibly unique “quesadilla,” any of the ceviches, and their house Margarita with salt foam.
The Spread, Norwalk: Chef Carlos Baez never disappoints, and for this reason my family can be found at this spot alarmingly often. Carlos’ background allows him to create dishes influenced by all culinary corners of the world, and they happen to have one of the best outdoor dining scenes in the area.
Valencia Luncheria, Norwalk: This Venezuelan spot has been around for ages but those Chicken Tamarillo Arepas, Chocolate Chili Baby Back Ribs, Baja Fish Burrito and well… really everything on this menu… is deeply flavorful, comforting, and delicious.
Match Burger Lobster, Westport: Have you tried the MATCH Burger? Well what are you waiting for? Sure, the house-made veggie burger, lobster rolls, and truffle fries are delicious, but Chef Matt Storch creates one of the absolute finest burgers around in his MATCH Burger with S&S onions and cheddar dip. It’s outrageous and worth every bite.
The Art Space Café, Norwalk: The newest addition to Bill Taibe’s restaurant empire, this one is located within the recently opened Norwalk Art Space. The cafe menu reveals some outrageously good sandwiches featuring locally sourced purveyors and farms, as well as a small but well curated breakfast offering. Don’t miss the Scrambled Eggs with Kimchee, the Hoodoo Brown Turkey Sandwich, or the Mozzarella dan Pest Sammy.
Mama Chow, Southport: Opened by a former Mecha Chef, this spot offers Asian street food with a variety of favorites from noodle soups to small plates with origins from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and China. Don’t miss their Laksa, Shrimp Butter Yolk, Kon Low See, and Mushroom Dumplings.
