I’m listening to realtor Mindy Wolkstein describe 87 Maple Avenue South, Westport. “The primary bedroom has this fantastic closet,” she says, “where you can showcase all of your fabulous bags and shoes.”

My heart skips.

Ohhhh… this closet. It could make any bag look beautiful. It could make a used Ziploc look beautiful.

This antique home - built in 1870 - is stunning. The kitchen walls are lacquered, the windows in the solarium and sun room are uniquely beautiful, and someone left a what I hope is an expensive bottle of wine in the wine cellar. The architectural details are treasures. It’s the kind of home one remembers visiting and a rare antidote to younger McMansions.

Every appliance in the chef’s kitchen is top-of-the-line and bedrooms and baths abound. Oh - and a barre studio, a separate parcel of land, a tennis court, and an enviable kitchen pantry.

One can imagine rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch and drinking lemonade with mint. Or sitting in a chair by a large window, reading “Songs in Ordinary Times” and sipping a lovely glass of chardonnay from the cellar as the sun wanes and the children pepper you with their opinions about your choice for dinner.
