Colorado native Teri Segelke grew up loving all kinds of animals. As an adult, she turned that passion into a thriving Greeley business that helps countless people enjoy their own animals.

Segelke decided to open J & T Feeds in 2002 after losing her management job to downsizing. The first years were challenging, and she made many mistakes. Her dad was her biggest cheerleader during those years. “My Dad was my mentor and knew I could be successful.”

J & T Feeds carries food as well as pets of all shapes and sizes, including dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, chickens, and horses. They also take special orders if customers can’t find exactly what they need on the shelves.  Segelke and her team are committed to staying up to date on current trends and new products. They all share a passion for continuing education and excellent customer service. Building relationships with customers is a foundational value for the business.

Owning a business is never without setbacks, and on Valentine’s Day, 2014, Segelke experienced an unimaginable one when a fire caused significant damage to her store. “It was the most traumatic day of my life,” she shared. Her loyal customers immediately sprang into action, setting up a GoFundMepage and dropping by with supplies and money. A few days after the fire, her husband asked if she planned to close the store. The answer was an emphatic no! “My customers depend on me. The dog that scratches all night because he has sensitivity issues. The cat who won’t eat. Helping solve those problems so people can enjoy their pets is what keeps me going.”

Segelke sees a silver lining to that traumatic day. “The fire prompted me to move the business to where it is now, and it is a much better location. If I hadn’t moved, I would not be nearly as successful as I am now.” A few indicators of her success include being named a Colorado Women of Influence in 2015, Outstanding Woman Of Weld County in 2016, Best Pet Food Store in Greeley multiple times, and Best Customer Service in Greeley in 2021.

“I believe in what I’m doing. My team cares about your pets. We want to help people get the maximum enjoyment from their pets,” Segelke shared. This spirit makes J & T Feeds a treasured part of our Greeley community.
