A Fond Farewell

After More Than Seven Years at the Helm of the Magazine, Roaring Fork Lifestyle Owner/Publisher Rick French is Turning the Page. He Welcomes a New Leader Starting January 2022

Change is good, they say. And as the year comes to a close I wanted to share the news of a happy transition for both myself personally and for Roaring Fork Lifestyle.

The first issue of this magazine arrived seven years ago, on December 1, 2014. When I decided to introduce the publication to the community, I envisioned it as a way for residents to connect with everything our incredible valley has to offer. From features on organizations and family-owned businesses to events, restaurants, arts, local life, and inspiring stories about people who live here and are making a difference. “RFL,” as we call it behind the scenes, is a magazine for you.

My wife, Linda, and I have decided it’s time for a change. We want to travel and see more of our four children and five grandkids scattered across the country. We want to take some time together after 48 years of marriage, and get to know each other a little better (if that is possible). As such, I am retiring and handing the magazine over to a new publisher in January.

Before I go, I have to do a very special call-out to my incredible editor, Caitlin Causey, who will remain as the creative backbone of RFL and bring you the editorial content you enjoy each month. Without Caitlin’s organizational skills and abilities as a true wordsmith, RFL would not be what it is today. I also extend very special gratitude to the freelance writers who have given insightful investigation of so many local people and topics. Finally, I thank Michael Hefferon and his team with Estate Photo Video for bringing life to our stories with photography.

Now, I want to tell you about Roaring Fork Lifestyle’s new publisher, Mel Miles. Mel brings years of experience in publishing, including with her current Lifestyle Publications magazine on the Front Range, Castle Rock Lifestyle. With long-standing ties to the west slope, Mel understands the exceptional place that is the Roaring Fork Valley. A few words from her: “I am a native, and my husband Bradley and our four children feel blessed to become part of this wonderful Roaring Fork community. I am committed to picking up where Rick is leaving off and I couldn’t be more excited to carry forward the beauty of what he and his team have created for years to come.”

Please welcome Mel with open arms. She is an enthusiastic, driven person who will do great things for Roaring Fork Lifestyle, the community, and our advertising partners.

I can’t believe my magic carpet ride is ending after more than seven wonderful years as publisher and 34 years as a resident of the valley that I have loved calling home. Happy holidays, God bless you, and may only happiness be at your door.
