Sayachi Sushi to Open in Brookside

Owners of Jarocho Launch New Restaurant

Article by Danielle Jean-Francois

Chef Carlos Falcon and his wife Sayaka Guchi-Falcon have already made their mark in the culinary scene in Kansas City with their first restaurant, Jarocho, featuring Mexican seafood.

It opened five years ago and was such a success that they opened a second location: Jarocho South in Overland Park.

Now they are bringing us a new concept. Sayachi, in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood, will serve some of the best and freshest sushi in the area. I attended their soft opening last week and enjoyed the journey of the Omakase experience.

Carlos started Jarocho because he wanted to shift the perception of Mexican food in the Midwest. He is from Veracruz, Mexico, where the seafood is fantastic, and he wanted to showcase the range of fresh sushi, ceviche and other authentic dishes—not Tex Mex loaded with cheese and refried beans.

Meanwhile, Sayaka is from Okinawa, Japan.

With the opening of Sayachi, they have fish flown in from both Japan and Mexico several times a week, bringing a variety of fresh seafood options to Kansans.
