Park Place Farmers’ Market

Leawood’s Premiere Destination is a Natural Setting to Support Local Growers and Makers

Park Place, Leawood’s choice destination for almost everything, just added something new and surprisingly perfect to its summer lineup—a local farmers’ market. Although the original plans were to begin last year, the pandemic stalled the grand opening date, yet somehow it feels right on time to celebrate this renewed mingling with our friends and neighbors on a casual Saturday morning in the fresh summer air.

“We wanted to bring a market here for some time as the property provides the perfect backdrop for such an experience,” says General Manager Scott Keller. “With Park Place’s ‘main street’ feel, local storefronts, the greenspace, and patios—it’s a natural setting for a farmers’ market.”

Located along W. 116th Place at Park Place Village, the Market opened May 1 and is scheduled every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. through October 16, rain or shine, with free covered parking available in the nearby parking garages.

The Park Place Farmers’ Market will feature a variety of produce vendors, local farmers, specialty food and makers, featured programming, and acoustic performances. Its aim is to build community around the growth of sustainable agricultural businesses and to promote food security by encouraging the consumption of locally grown fresh food.

“We’re excited to welcome approximately 20 vendors every market Saturday, and we expect to keep growing that number throughout the season,” says Ginger Kremneva, manager, Park Place Farmers’ Market. “Some vendors will appear for the full season, with others rotating throughout to allow diversity and selection based on what produce is in harvest.”

Leawood Chamber President Kevin Jeffries also agrees that Park Place offers the perfect spot for a local outdoor market. “The timing is right, and the desire to support local farmers and makers is important to the city and its residents,” Jeffries says. “We’ve seen Saturday morning traditions like this at places such as City Market, Overland Park, and Lee’s Summit, to name a few. We’re excited to see a new tradition start right here in Leawood.”

Interested vendors and local growers and makers within a 125-mile radius of Leawood, as well as interested performers and volunteers, are welcome to submit applications or sign up on the website at parkplacefarmersmarket.com.

The opening of the Farmers’ Market represents Park Place’s commitment to support local, not only with its retail and restaurant offerings, but also through its programming and free, year-round community events. This year, Park Place announced five new or upcoming openings: Bamboo Penny’s, Outta the Blue, Moshiri Jewelry, Plate Restaurant, and MassageLuXe, with more to come. Park Place Village is a 10-building mixed-use complex that offers a variety of amenities including boutique shops, salons, fitness and wellness services, upscale restaurants and cafés. The surrounding area features parking garages, the Aloft Hotel and luxury apartments.

The Park Place Farmers’ Market is just one of an extensive list of free experiences that residents, office employees, and visitors can expect to see at Park Place throughout the summer and early fall months. Free live music, concerts, movies and special events are planned at Barkley Square every Friday and Saturday night from May through October.

Park Place Village is a 483,984 square foot mixed-use retail and office property located in Leawood, Kansas owned by KBS Real Estate Investment Trust III and managed by CBRE Group, Inc. Park Place offers retail, dining, office, lodging, and residential options. Beautiful Barkley Square, a community greenspace, features year-round activities. In the summer, enjoy live concerts and outdoor games while sipping a refreshing drink at one of the surrounding restaurant patios or rooftop decks. In winter, the area magically transforms to “The Ice at Park Place,” Johnson County’s only outdoor ice-skating rink. Throughout the year, various events and activities add to the vibrant community.
