Picture this, you arrive at the airport, your plane is boarding soon and you’re luggage is overweight! That was my morning on the way to New York. How does a suitcase for a 5-day trip, weigh over 50 pounds?! Luckily, I carried a tote with me and I was able to stuff five pounds worth of stuff in there. Once I got that sorted, the attendant asked me for my boarding pass… I had it on my phone and I could not find my phone ANYWHERE! I was searching frantically for it. Guess where I found it? In my suitcase! I accidentally put it in there when I was taking clothes out of my overweight luggage!

Luckily, my morning wasn’t an indication of what my trip was going to be like.

In this post, I am going to highlight some of the cool restaurants, bakeries, and spots we checked out while in New York.

Where to Stay

The RogerWe stayed at The Roger New York hotel on Madison Ave. It is a beautiful boutique hotel with a mixture of chic and old world decor. We received complimentary welcome champagne and the staff was sweet enough to decorate the room for our Bachelorette Party.

Where to Eat + Drink

Dear IrvingThis little gem is a must see in Manhattan! There are 4 rooms, that are each decorated to perfection. One room looks like a Parisian palace, another looks like the Gatsby era and one has enclosed drop down chandelier booths. Dear Irving is known for their delicious cocktails and they accept reservations which is a plus! We went on a Sunday, so it wasn’t too crowded.

Beauty & EssexFor the win! Since we were a wedding party, they gave us free champagne and shots. If that’s not great customer service, I don’t know what is. Beauty & Essex is a speakeasy located in the Lower East Side, and the storefront is a guitar store. They also had the best food that I ate while in New York.

Levain BakeryOh Levain Bakery, how I love you! They have 4 locations in New York and their chocolate chip peanut butter cookie is by far the best cookie I have ever tasted. We stopped at Levain right before our flight and I didn’t eat the cookies until I got home. Had I known how amazing they actually were, I would have stocked up!

Cookie DŌ NYCIf you have sweet tooth, this is the place for you! Yes, that is cookie dough in a cone! I had the smores flavor, but even the simple cookie dough was delicious.

Culture

The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Surprisingly, this was my first time at The Met! As you know by now, I love museums! It is free to go if you have a Bank of America card, and if you live in New York. They also have student discounts. The Met had artwork by Monet, my favorite painter, as well as cool fashion pieces and furniture!

Brooklyn

Westlight The Westlight is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. It is located in Brooklyn and it has beautiful, almost 360, view of the city. I would definitely recommend making reservations here. As we were leaving, a line was starting to form outside.

CecconiWhile in Brooklyn, we decided to eat at Cecconi. (The views of the Bridge are gorgeous here). We wanted to sit outside, but since it was raining, we had to stay inside. Cecconi is a modern-day Italian Restaurant and they also have a location in West Hollywood.

World Trade Center: If you want a good view of the city, without the Empire State Building prices, the World Trade Center is for you. The view is enclosed, but you get a 360 around the World Trade Center.

Dumbo Brooklyn: The best view of the Manhattan Bridge is at the intersection of Water St. and Washington St.

Bars

The Whiskey Brooklyn – Located a block over from Weslight, was so much fun! I am more of a bar girl than a club one, and the vibes here were awesome! They had a bar upstairs as well as a bigger bar, photo booth, games and music downstairs. The DJ was killing it with the 90, and early 20 jams!

The Delancey – Is a multi-level lounge on the Lower East Side. This location seemed a little bit smaller and less crowded, but we still had a good time. This was our sash night, where the bride wore a “Bride to Be” sash and we had on our “Team Bride” ones. (Yes, we were those gals!) It is so insane how New York bars close at 4 a.m. By the time we ate and got back to the hotel room, it was 5:30 a.m. and the sun was rising. Needless to say, we were exhausted! I’m so used to the last call being 1:30 a.m. here in LA.
