Best Picnic Spots

Who doesn’t love a good picnic? There’s something so nostalgic about packing your favorite foods and beverages in a cooler or basket and enjoying them while spread out on a blanket outdoors. While the backyard is a great setting for picnics, our community has plenty of idyllic spots for families to set up their spread for the day. These picnic spots offer something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a scenic view, a dog-friendly park or a romantic spot with some privacy.

  1. Brook Beatty Park

    Brook Beatty Park, home to sculpture" Faith," includes a playground, picnic table, benches, water fountain/dog bowl and bike rack. 

  2. Ironwoods Park

    Ironwoods Park is a 114-acre park with walking trails, 4 cabins, and expansive space to enjoy a day of exploring and a picnic with the family. 

  3. The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

    Take a walk in the woods at The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and enjoy a picnic lunch while taking in the beauty. 

  4. Gezer Park

    Gezer Park includes a walking trail, public art, two shelters, playground, Havdalah garden, ceremonial fire pit, and other amenities.

    Black Hoof Park

    Black Hoof Park offers picnic shelters, a unique spillway, several miles of trails through wooded areas, a lake, and fun natural play areas for children

  6. Kingston Lake Park

    Kingston Lake Park has plenty of space and shade for a family picnic while enjoying the view of the lake. 

  7. Franklin Park

    Find a shady picnic spot to beat the heat at the spacious, heavily-treed Franklin Park. 

  8. Jacob L. Loose Park

    Jacob L. Loose Park is the ideal location to enjoy a picnic and a stroll through the rose gardens on a beautiful day.

    City Park

    City Park consists soccer fields,tennis courts, baseball fields, sand volleyball courts, an all-inclusive new playground, one half-mile loop jogging trail, and LEAWOOF Dog Park.

  10. Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park

    Pack a picnic and enjoy the amenities at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park such as the Legler Barn Museum, a pond, and a disc golf course. 

  11. South Lake Park

    South Lake Park is a casual picnic setting full of outdoor activities that includes fishing, a playground, a loop-trail and areas to relax in the shade.

  12. Antioch Park

    Antioch Park, a Johnson County treasure, includes two lakes, walking paths, tennis courts, picnic shelters, basketball court the historic Dodge Town play area, and playground.
