Las Vegas Ballpark Welcomes Back Fans for Baseball and Much More

Minor league ballpark hosts major events

In early May the Las Vegas Ballpark welcomed back fans for its first game in 606 days, and then completely opened in the beginning of June.

COVID-19 wiped out the entire 2020 minor league season and more than 5,000 baseball fans returned to the stadium on May 6 to watch the Aviators opening game against the Sacramento River Cats.

Summerlin and valley residents, Vegas visitors and baseball lovers from across the globe can now enjoy live games at the ballpark, which celebrated its pre-pandemic grand opening in April 2019.

The $150 million ballpark replaced the old downtown Cashman Field which housed previous Vegas ballgames.

The award-wining ballpark is part of Vegas’ continuing evolution as a major sports destination. “We designed one of the finest Triple-A stadiums in the country,” said Las Vegas Ballpark Vice President and General Manager Chuck Johnson.

The stadium houses 8,200 fixed breathable seats with an innovative mesh bottom and back design for maximum comfort on hot afternoons, 22 high-end hospitality suites, 400 club level seats and 350 party deck seats.

Baseball fans can also experience luxurious Playstudios air-conditioned suites with wider seats, a full-service bar with more than 20 different beers and specialty cocktails, and a view of the largest LED video screen in minor league baseball.

The space was designed for much more than baseball games.

“We created the new ballpark to host a wide variety of year-round community events and gatherings,” said Johnson.

Guests can enjoy the center field swimming pool, experience films on the field or in the stands during “Flicks on the Field” monthly movie nights, listen to upcoming live concerts or head to the massive show kitchen for an evening of elevated baseball food from Vegas celebrity chefs.

“We wanted to take advantage of the outstanding and diverse local food scene and bring Vegas-worthy elevated food to our ballpark,” said Johnson. Ballpark guests can savor Mexican dishes from chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken’s BBQ Mexicana; cheese steaks and subs from Capriotti’s; Sicilian style pizzas and sandwiches from Ferraro’s, specialty burgers from Flight Deck Burgers and custom dogs and sausages from Custom Hot Dogs.

In October, the ballpark will host the second annual Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, where the most prestigious cars will be displayed and judged on the field.

More than 40 annual Concours d’Elegance events take place all over the world. The first in America was held at Pebble Beach in 1950 and is still known nationwide as the premiere luxury car event in the United States. The beginning of the Concours d’Elegance events dates back to Paris in the 17th century, when rich aristocrats showcased elegant expensive carriages through parks on weekends. As the transportation industry transitioned to motorized vehicles, the events began featuring new automotive design features and technology.

Luxury cars, both past and current makes and models, are now judged for their style and technical merit, as well as their history, originality, and accuracy preservation or restoration. Unlike other car shows or events, Concours events are meant to bring out the finest, rarest and most sought-after vehicles for the public to view.

Las Vegas Concours d‘Elegance founder and chairman Stuart Sobek approached the Las Vegas Ballpark about hosting the event because of the venue’s unique amenities. “Las Vegas Ballpark is incredible. I wanted to find a location that would honor the tradition of this world-class car show and offer something unique and different for attendees,” he said.

Sobek is a 36-year veteran of attending the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and wanted to bring the elite automobile show to Las Vegas. “I wanted to choose a venue that would create the same, if not better, experience as the Pebble Beach Councours.”

“I’ve attended these shows all over the globe,” he said. “I wanted to set up a world class car show in Vegas that was sophisticated and worthy of the car culture.”

The ballpark provided the perfect match for Sobek. “Located right in the middle of Summerlin, families and car enthusiasts can easily find the ballpark, park and view beautiful unique cars under the sparkling lights on the field,” he said.  The ballpark provides unlimited comfortable seating with shade; unique views of the show field and elevated traditional ballpark cuisine by celebrity chefs Giada De Laurentiis and Brian Howard.

“Our exhibitors are pillars of industry, celebrities, and the top car enthusiasts in the world,” said Sobek. Companies scheduled to come include Ralph Lauren and JW Marriott and celebrity car enthusiasts Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen among others.

Sobek expects more than 130 vintage and new cars to be showcased during the event at the Las Vegas Ballpark, which runs from October 21 through October 24. Cars will be loaded onto the ballpark field, and on Friday, October 22 a “Field of Dreams” special dinner will be served to exhibitors and sponsors in a casual environment. The public is invited to the Saturday show with an entry cost of $100 per ticket. Guests can view the cars on the field and watch the award show from noon to 6pm.

"We are looking forward to hosting the Concours d'Elegance in October, as well as more concerts and events in the coming months," said Las Vegas Ballpark Special Events Manager Jenna Potter.

With its unique amenities, extensive catering options, full event power, broadcast infrastructure, and full-service production booth, the state-of-the-art Las Vegas Ballpark is attracting more and more savvy events. The indoor/outdoor ballpark facility accommodates any conceivable special event, big or small, such as nonprofit fundraisers, weddings, holiday parties, corporate gatherings, meetings, team-building activities, job fairs, concerts, festivals, art exhibitions, watch parties, batting practices, sporting events, little league clinics, exhibition games, yoga, and more.

So don’t be surprised if your next fun-filled activity is at the Las Vegas Ballpark. Baseball games are just the start of your modern neighborhood ballpark experience.
