Active Health Chiropractic: Live Active, Stay Healthy

Active Health Chiropractic focuses on restoring structural changes to decrease pain, reinstating proper biomechanics to stabilize affected areas, and creating a therapeutic exercise program for each patient to help strengthen and reach optimum range of motion.

“We achieve these goals by using manual manipulation and the newest physical therapy modalities, including the Phoenix Thera-Lase systems,” says Landon Poling, Doctor of Chiropractic and Owner of Active Health Chiropractic in Westlake Village.

The most popular services include the full spine adjustment and pain management laser therapy.

“The laser therapy is definitely the thing that people can’t find elsewhere,” says Dr. Poling, further emphasizing that he has a Pheonix Thera-Lase system in his office to help with pain management and cellular regeneration.

“There are only four of these machines in the state of California as of right now. The combination of the laser therapy and chiropractic adjustment has been working wonders on people.”

In other services, Active Health Chiropractic offers the following:

● Active Release Techniques® is the global leader in noninvasive soft-tissue and nerve treatment, including treatment of strains, sprains and other musculoskeletal disorders. Hands-on, movement-based ART treatment is specifically designed to quickly reduce pain and restore function by releasing muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia that no longer function properly due to overuse or injury.

● Therapeutic Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction which facilitates healing with blood flow. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Mild bruising or other marks that may be acquired after the treatment usually diminish within 10 days of the session.

● The Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. It is one of several manual therapy approaches that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage/scraping the skin gently. The therapy is designed to help the practitioner identify areas of restriction and attempt to break up scar tissue to reduce pain and increase function.

● Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment modality commonly used to provide deep heating to soft tissue structures in the body. Deep heating tendons, muscles or ligaments increases circulation to those tissues, which is thought to help the healing process. Increasing tissue temperature with ultrasound is also used to help decrease pain.

● RockTape is a brand of kinesiotape, manufactured weaving a natural-hybrid fabric so it stretches in one direction and not the other. When applied over a stretched muscle, RockTape lifts the skin, accelerating blood flow to increase the amount of oxygen available to the muscles, which reduces fatigue.

● The Functional Movement Screen is a tool used to identify asymmetries which result in functional movement deficiencies. The FMS aims to identify imbalances in mobility and stability during seven fundamental movement patterns. These movement patterns are designed to provide observable performance of basic locomotor, manipulative and stabilizing movements by placing an individual in extreme positions where weaknesses and imbalances become noticeable if appropriate mobility and motor control is not utilized. Once these deficiencies have been identified through the FMS, a program of corrective exercises is then developed with the goal of preventing musculoskeletal injuries.

These services can help people in many ways—especially in today’s challenging times.

“The pandemic has been very stressful on a lot of people—it has forced people to stay home and create a sedentary lifestyle,” Dr. Poling adds. “Active Health Chiropractic offers the ability to decrease stress and improve overall function.”

Above all, Dr. Poling is a firm believer in maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle, and hopes to influence his community and athletes of all ages to “Live Active. Stay Healthy.”

“The ultimate goal of AHC is to serve as many people in the surrounding communities as possible,” he adds. “Providing relief from pain and to improve an individual’s overall health is our main priority. We also find it important to educate our patients in the importance of taking care of the human body and how to achieve that on a daily basis.”
