It's Closing Time!

When it comes to mortgages, working with Jon is a slam dunk.

When you find an honest, straight-shooting lending professional with integrity, a great team, and a myriad of lending rate options, you’ve hit the jackpot! And that is who Jon Lamkin, a Short Hills resident, is. Let’s get to know Jon!

Jon, who majored in Finance and Economics at Syracuse University, is an avid basketball fan and golfer        who wanted to be a professional basketball coach growing up. He’s a 20-year industry veteran with accolades that include Mortgage Origination Magazine’s Top 1% (2010-2019), Scotsman Guide Top 200 originators in the country (2011-2019), and has been Guaranteed Rate’s #1 originator in the NJ/NY/CT/PA/MD region for the last five years.

What sets you apart? “Ninety five percent of my business comes from trusted advisors, realtors, previous clients, family and friends. It’s all about trust and a commitment to do the best job possible. I try to understand what my clients’ needs are and give them different solutions. When you work with a bank you are stuck with one solution. We can give many more options than a traditional bank can, our digital technology is highly superior, and our rates are super competitive. We make our clients a priority. I’ve closed transactions from start to finish in nine days.”

What are the latest trends? “There are more buyers than homes for sale. Homes are getting five, ten and fifteen offers. So now, people who live in the city are buying primary homes in non- traditional areas, such as the Jersey Shore, the Hamptons, and in Upstate New York and the Berkshires. It appears everyone is looking for more outdoor living.”

What are your recommendations for aspiring entrepreneurs?Try to be like a sponge and learn. Not everything will work. Keep trying new things and always push yourself. In the event you don’t know the answer to a question, find somebody who does.”

Jon also has a fun side. Louie, their Golden-Doodle, was named after a basketball player from Syracuse. The name of their latest addition, Lucky, a Bichon-Poodle, was the result of a family “March Madness” style game. “Everybody picked five names and we did a final tournament,” says Jon. “We took two names out of a hat, voted on each, and if that name beat the other names, it went into the winner’s bracket and the others got thrown out.”

The next time you see Jon and Michelle Lamkin in town, you can talk about mortgage rates, golf, basketball, and you may even be fortunate enough to meet Louie and Lucky.  www.rate.com/jonlamkin
