Making Working at home work

Denise Fogarty Interiors shares tips for beautiful workspaces

With so many of us working (safely) at home, we asked interior designer Denise Fogarty to share her tips on making work space work.

"Now, you don’t need much to set up shop-  your computer and your phone…. maybe a printer and you are all set to tackle the world," she says. she and her husband Andy, plus their daughter Meaghan have all been working from their beautiful Naples condo. "Never would I have guessed that three of us would be working out of our small condo, but it does work, thank God!"

When we moved into our condo I took a small portion of our kitchen and designed this “business center” (because it reminds us of the small room at some hotels where you can  shut the door to make a conference call, etc.when you are traveling). Our condo is always for sale - being an interior designer, nothing is not for sale. Both of us work out of the house and my first intention was to have Andy in the guest bedroom and I would take this space, but after seeing how well this turned out, there is room for two. That way when we do have guests, they have a room to themselves. The space is small but mighty. I wanted it to work well with computer, printer, and books at hand. We personalized the space too with family pictures, wine and favorite books. You can shut the door and be by yourself too, though most of the time we leave the door open because we are right on the water and can enjoy the view from here as well as from most areas in our home.

This is our guest bedroom.

During the pandemic, our daughter, Meaghan, has been working remotely from Florida, she is a recruiter for Guggenheim Partners in Manhattan. It is very inviting and subtle colors make it calming. I just put punch of colors on the pillows and accent on the roman shades. This room too has a view of the gulf.

From NY to Naples

My client, David’s work spot when he's home in Naples, at Le Ciel on Gulf Shore Blvd. He is a high powered attorney in Manhattan. He enjoys the view while he works, it is of the back bay off of Gulf Shore Blvd N. I helped Diane a bit with the arrangement of the room, it is also used as a TV room and family gathering spot after work hours. So this is where the sectional and TV are, as well as, an armoire. I love the view. Everything is close at hand but feels very well organized.
