Loving His Country: Russell Dickerson on Tour

The RD Party Is Hitting the Road with FGL

Russell Dickerson first landed in the spotlight in late 2015 with the single "Yours." The song hit number one on the Country Airplay charts, starting a trifecta of chart-toppers for the country rocker (including "Blue Tacoma" and "Every Little Thing") that earned him a nomination for Best New Male Artist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music. In December of 2020, he released his second album, Southern Symphony. And now Dickerson is ready to get back on the road, touring with Florida Georgia Line beginning this September with the I Love My Country Tour.

"We're as prepared as could be," Dickerson asserts. "We had our first real full band, full lighting, buses, semi-truck show out in Ohio a few weeks back. Honestly, it felt like we have not missed a beat. It's like riding a bike. We hopped right back in. Nothing has really changed and we're right back at it. It was amazing."

Earlier this year, Dickerson debuted the video for "Home Sweet," one of the early released singles from Southern Symphony, a heartfelt tribute to his wife Kailey. He says it's his new favorite song to perform live. "It's a big uptempo anthem and so easy to sing along to. Just hearing the crowd sing along has been astonishing."

What's perhaps not so astonishing, is that Dickerson has album number three almost ready. "If I had to go record today, I could record album three. I took 2020 off and took it seriously - taking that time off. We'd been going for six years. I usually work out all the time and eat healthy, but with 2020, I just kinda ate all the nasty, delicious food. 2021 was time to get serious. I rented a big studio and I rented it for songwriting. To have that space, the songs that have been coming out of that have been crazy. So album three is coming in hot."

Dickerson learned to play the guitar at 16 years of age. Songwriting followed at 19. "My parents bought me a cheap guitar and a guitar chord poster and I had that on the back of my door in my room growing up. I just looked at that chart and slowly but surely chipped away at learning all the chords. Or just playing along to old worship songs or Blink 182. That's how I learned guitar. Then I applied that to songwriting."

The Tennessee native grew up in Union City, but most of his childhood was in Franklin. He left the "super small town" at the age of 10 and landed in Franklin in 1997. "I mean just to see just how it's changed over the years and how its grown. To see Grey's go from an actual pharmacy to this super upscale restaurant now. I'm just proud of the entire downtown area." And his favorite place? "We love Cork and Cow and 55 South. I mean to build your own bloody Mary is a fantastic thing they got there." RussellDickerson.com
