Living Another Lifestyle

Building A Second Home in Franklin

Two years ago, we were scheduled to visit Nashville to tour Vanderbilt University for my oldest son. We had never been to Tennessee and had no expectations. The morning we left for the airport, we were evacuated from our home in Thousand Oaks, CA because of the wild fires. We couldn't go back home for ten days so we decided to explore Tennessee and fell in love with Nashville and especially Franklin. My husband really wanted to look at property. We met our realtor, Scott Hines, who drove us around Old Hillsboro Rd and Natchez Trace, and at that point, I knew exactly where I wanted our home to be located. The charm of downtown Franklin, the coffee from Frothy Monkey and the baked goods from Triple Crown Bakery made us feel content. And every one we met was so engaging and sincere. It felt like a warm hug just being in this small town. (My son ended up at Stanford University, but I'm hoping my youngest will attend Vanderbilt.)

After looking at several properties, we realized that our dream home did not exist yet. We wanted a home where our children, nieces and nephews could gather for holidays and create lifelong memories. Living in Los Angeles is wonderful, but coming to Franklin brings a sense of calm and simplicity that grounds us. The property we purchased is surrounded by natural beauty.  One neighbor has goats, another has ducks, and another horses. We are so excited to have started building our home. I have put together a dream team with our builder, architect and landscape architect. The home we are building will be something no one has seen before, yet will still have a nod to the modern Farmhouse. I'm very appreciative of the beauty and history of Franklin and we feel so blessed to call this area our second home.

I became "The Accidental Decorator" because I have always remodeled and sold several of my homes. My background was in entertainment, as I was a studio makeup artist for television. Friends had always asked me to help them with design and finally one day when my children started going to school full time, I agreed to design one room for a friend. I haven't stopped designing since that day, almost ten years ago. TheAccidentalDecorator.com
