Health and wellness are important aspects of your and your family’s life. When Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital opened to the public on Jan. 30, 2021, it expanded our community’s access to a variety of health and wellness services your family may need in a convenient location.
Located at the intersection of Porter Road and Avalon Road in Winter Garden, Orlando Health Horizon West is a six-story, 214,000-square-foot facility. It has the capacity for 120 patient beds and seamlessly integrates with the existing emergency department and medical pavilion.
“At Orlando Health Horizon West, we don't just provide care for patients. We truly care about you and your family,” says Brian Wetzel, chief operating officer (COO) of the new Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital. “We want to help you and your loved ones be as healthy as possible.”
Health and Wellness Services
Orlando Health Horizon West brings together experts in multiple specialties to provide complete health and wellness services for the whole family.
Patients have access to emergency care, cardiovascular care and surgical services with the hospital. In the medical pavilion adjacent to the hospital, patients have access to both primary (general) health care such as pediatrics, family medicine and OB/GYN, as well as specialized physicians. These specialized medical services include orthopedics and sports medicine, gastroenterology, pulmonology (lung), and sleep medicine.
In addition, since Orlando Health Horizon West is part of the Orlando Health family, you also gain access to other specialists and hospitals in the system that can help you and your family.
“No matter what your medical needs are, our experts can help get you healthy and well and keep you healthy and well,” says Wetzel.
Health and Wellness Tips
Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital's physicians and other team members want you and your family to stay as healthy as possible. To help you succeed, below are some tips from Cesar Mejia, MD, board-certified pediatrician within the Orlando Health Medical Pavilion – Horizon West.
“We encourage everyone to make at least one daily wellness effort,” says Dr. Mejia. “It’s great for all aspects of your health — mental, physical and emotional.”
Get Regular Exercise
The physicians at Orlando Health Horizon West recommend that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. However, if you exercise vigorously with a lot of aerobic activity, then 75 minutes per week is the minimum. “The more you can exercise, the better it is for your health,” says Dr. Mejia. “However, even smaller amounts of staying active benefit your body.”
In addition, Dr. Mejia recommends that children ages 6-17 years should engage in moderate aerobic activity for at least 60 minutes per day. Children in this age range should also aim for vigorous aerobic activity at least three days a week. He recommends that children ages 3-5 years engage in a combination of light, moderate and vigorous activity for at least three hours per day.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Diet can affect both you and your child’s short- and long-term health. Maintaining a healthy weight lowers your risk of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and other health problems. A good diet gives you the energy you need to conquer each day.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Sleep is vital to your overall health because your body repairs itself at night. The physicians at Orlando Health Horizon West encourage adults to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Children age 1-5 should sleep 12-14 hours per day, including naps, and children age 5-12 years should aim for 9-11 hours.
See Your Doctor on a Regular Basis
Seeing your doctor or pediatrician regularly and having wellness exams can find many problems before they become serious. Early detection is important for achieving better treatment outcomes and managing your health.
“The physicians and specialists at Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital are ready to help you stay healthy,” says Wetzel. “We are dedicated to serving the local community and helping neighbors care for neighbors.”
Virtual Ribbon Cutting and Community Drive-Through Open House
