Once upon a time, non-alcoholic cocktails, or mocktails, had a pretty ho-hum reputation. Club soda with lime, maybe a Shirley Temple, or if you were feeling daring, a Roy Rogers — Boring and sometimes awkwardly childish!
Luckily, we're living in a heyday of alcohol-free options that are just as fun, sophisticated, and delicious as their boozy counterparts.
Between the plethora of non-alcoholic wine, beer, and spirits available combined with local Mixologist and cocktail menus embracing non-ABV options, it's easier than ever to avoid imbibing without feeling left out.
At home, whether it's for your guests or yourself, it's always a good idea to add a fun and refreshing cocktail into the mix, but without the guilt (or extra calories)!
Here are our favorite easy, delicious non-alcoholic recipes to serve up!
Seedlip's Spiced Martin'NO
Cocktails don't get more classic than the martini. And if it happens to be your regular drink, chances are no one makes it better than you. So follow your favorite recipe and substitute Seedlip's Spice 94 for your favorite spirit. But, if you're new to non-alcoholic mixology, this is an excellent place to start--one from which you can begin adjusting ingredients and proportions until you've reached something that tastes just right--this one is as good as any.
1 oz Seedlip Spice 94
¼ oz Olive Brine
¼ oz Verjus
Add ingredients to a mixing glass w/ ice, Stir (don't shake) & Strain. Garnish with lemon zest and a Castelvetrano Olive.
Ritual Zero Proof's All Day Margarita
Ritual Zero Proof's virgin margarita is the undisputed champ of tequila cocktails in its most classic form. This version is made with orange juice instead of triple sec, but you can leave the triple sec for a low abv version if you like. Or take the fast lane with high quality (repeat: high quality) mix. Make it frozen or on the rocks. Standard or spicy. Throw in some fresh herbs if the mood strikes.
2 oz Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Alternative
1 oz Orange Juice
1 oz fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
Lime slice or wedge
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake, shake, shake. Pour into a cocktail glass, and garnish with a lime slice or wedge.
This non-alcoholic take on a classic cosmo incorporates some herbal notes from Seedlip's Grove 42 that pairs beautifully with the mix of juices. As a result, it has all the flavor that Carrie Bradshaw would want, minus the hangovers and regrettable decisions.
2 oz Seedlip Grove 42
1 oz Organic Cranberry Juice
½ oz fresh Lime Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
Ritual Zero Proof's Whiskey Zero, Sour
This zero-proof cocktail hits two sides of your taste buds; the Ritual Zero Proof whiskey alternative and the simple syrup provide the sweetness, which plays off the citric tang of the lemon juice. The egg white gives the whole thing body and foam, ensuring that you get a non-alcoholic but authentic take on the classic whiskey sour. And if that raw egg white throws you, no problem. You can avoid it (and make this cocktail by substituting one ounce of chickpea juice--also known as aquafaba).
2 oz Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey Alternative
3/4 oz fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
1 Egg White
Lemon slice or wedge
Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and shake until frothy. Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon slice or wedge, if desired.
Seedlip's Espresso Martini
If you like your coffee like you like your martinis--cold, dark, and full of flavor--you'll like this version of the Espresso Martini. Even if you take your morning cup hot and black, you'll still probably find something to like in this zero-alcohol recipe that's both bitter and sweet. Strong coffee, preferably chilled, can be subbed if you don't have access to freshly pulled Espresso!
2 oz Seedlip Spice 94
2 oz fresh Espresso (or coffee concentrate can be substituted)
½ oz Simple Syrup
Coffee Bean garnish
Add Spice 94, Espresso, and Simple Syrup to a mixing glass with ice. Mix with a bar spoon until well chilled. Strain into a glass and add Coffee Bean as garnish.
Ritual Zero Proof's Not So Old Fashioned
When you get right down to it, the Bourbon Old Fashioned is little more than a slug of whiskey, seasoned and sweetened. Yet, for all its sophisticated simplicity, the drink remains as relevant today as it was when it first captured drinkers' hearts 200 years ago. In Ritual Zero Proof's version, you can have all the flavors without the ABV!
2 oz Ritual Zero Proof's Rum Alternative
½ oz Maple Syrup
3-5 dashes of Bitters
Orange peel and cherry for garnish
Add rum alternative, syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice. Mix with a bar spoon until well chilled. Strain over ice.
