Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.
East High School alumna Leah Dowdy made her national television debut performing her new, original song “The Fool” live on the TODAY Show with hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager.
"I never imagined in my wildest dreams I'd be singing live on the TODAY Show. Honestly, I'm still pinching myself, " she says.
While at East High in West Chester, Leah was active in theater, with roles in Once On This Island (2004), Footloose (2005), and Anything Goes (2006). Leah majored in film studies and communications rhetoric, with a minor in dance, at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City to pursue an acting career, appearing on television shows, such as The Sinner and Dispatches From Elsewhere.
Leah says COVID-19 brought her back to her love of songwriting when the pandemic caused an industrywide shutdown. Demonstrating resilience, she constructed a home recording studio in the closet of her childhood bedroom and self-produced two singles while quarantining with her family in West Chester.
In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, she titled her second single “Human," and decided to upload the powerful anthem onto major music platforms and donate the proceeds to the nonprofit organization Color Of Change.
At press time, Leah was finishing up a music video to complement her third single "Worthy."
"I shot my first music video during a pandemic...2020 was super weird, but I'm so grateful to still be pursuing my artistic passions," she reflects.
Leah says she looks forward to building her music library and hopes to pen Grammy-award-winning lyrics in the near future.
It feels like intermission is finally over, and I am ready for my second act.
