A charcuterie board is a great way to serve up delicious food, but you can make it ahead and spend the evening with your guests instead of cooking. Maria Kohayan suggests a large plate or an actual board. To begin, gather a selection of meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits, condiments (fig jam is great with goat cheese!), and accompaniments such as pickles, nuts and olives.

Place the meat first. You can creatively roll it or simply fold it over and place it around the board. Remember to add volume. Don't be afraid to move items as you go.

3//

For cheese, choose a selection of cubes, slices, and wedges. Get a variety of hard and soft cheeses to add texture and visual appeal.

4//

Use a separate dish to hold baguettes and larger crackers. Maria suggests using smaller dishes for condiments and accompaniments. Have fun with it! "I remind people not to feel as if you have to use everything."

 5//

When you're finished, add decorative items for seasonal color. Don't forget serving utensils—small spoons, tongs, and cheese knives. Bon appetit!
