Enjoying Gilbert with Insight

Brigette Peterson enthusiastically embraces all that is special about Gilbert

The Town of Gilbert has elected its new mayor, Brigette Peterson. She served many years on the Town of Gilbert Town Council before resigning her position so she could run for mayor. As one might expect, Peterson has a unique and robust insight into the people and places that make Gilbert so special.

Our mayor has called Gilbert home since 1995. “As big as Gilbert gets, as small as it stays,” Brigette Peterson explains. “People are friendly and know each other. The community is safe and vibrant and there is always something new to enjoy, whether it is a new store, restaurant or park.” Peterson’s immediate family includes her husband Mark Peterson, their daughter Jenn Hensley and son-in-law Shawn Hensley.

Peterson selected our most famous landmark that continues to be a welcoming beacon to all that visit Downtown Gilbert as her favorite. “My favorite place is Water Tower Plaza,” she says. “I can sit and look at the water tower and splash pad at any time of day or night. It is beautiful with the sun shining on the tower or all lit up in different colors in the evening.”

Peterson also has some favorite Gilbert restaurants, although she notes that it is tough to select just one because there are so many great eateries in town. She singled out Sal’s Pizza for pizza and pasta, Dragon Wok for Chinese food, Sushi Brokers for sushi, Flancer’s for sandwiches and salads, and Liberty Market as her favorite go-to for any meal.

Gilbert has been booming with development in the past two decades, and as much as the town has, it welcomes more businesses and services. “I would love to see a hotel that has conference center opportunities but also has local staycation features like a lazy river and water type amenities,” Peterson explains. “I believe this would be a great option for our businesses and residents.”

As a long-time Gilbert resident, Peterson has seen a lot of change and meets many residents as well as tourists and visitors. “People that visit the Town of Gilbert always think we are a small community, they love the feel, and then when I share that we are over 260,000 residents, they are so surprised,” Peterson finishes. “We are the size of a city with the heart of a town!”
