Loving Local -

Gilbert Town Manager Patrick Banger applauds locally owned businesses

Patrick Banger moved here from St. Louis, MO in 2011 when he accepted his current job as Gilbert’s Town Manager. In the time he has lived here, he has seen explosive growth and revels in all things local. Gilbert Lifestyle Magazine caught up with him just as he headed out to search for meteorite pieces in the Superstition Mountains.

There is one Gilbert business that has become both a Banger family favorite and a tradition. “We have gone to see “A Christmas Carol” at Hale Theatre every year since we moved here with some good friends of ours,” says Patrick Banger. “It’s become a family tradition for us, and we love going to all their shows.”

He also loves to patronize his favorite Gilbert restaurants, including Liberty Market. “I think they should charge me rent, as much as I’m up there!” laughs Banger. “If I’m having a work meeting for breakfast or lunch, I love going to Liberty. The food is wonderful, and it feels like you’re in your home in your own living room, and you always run into people you know.” He says Gilbert is spoiled with so many great restaurants and particularly appreciates that are locally owned. He also mentions Postino and Garage-East as other favorite spots.

Banger is excited that Gilbert will soon get to experience something brand new and unlike anything else - The Strand water park. “That is going to be mixed use. It will have general recreation lake, beach water feature, landing cable pull ski lake, wakeboarding lake and then the surf lake. I can’t wait for it to open!” Development slowed a bit due to the pandemic but build-out continues.

“I would encourage everybody on a Saturday morning to go up to our Farmer’s Market and the Art Walk,” says Banger of a fun suggestion for residents or visitors. “Spend the morning in our Heritage District then pick any one of the fabulous restaurants down in that area to have brunch or lunch. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday.”

Banger’s immediate family includes wife Belinda Banger and their three daughters, Brittany Banger, Erin Banger and Sydney Schubbe who is a junior at Williams Field High School. “One of the things that’s really special about Gilbert is its people,” finishes Patrick. “They’re truly kind and caring to one another. The community as a whole has so much to offer. It’s just a beautiful community.”
