Bring More Joy Into Your Daily Routine

5 SMALL CHANGES THAT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

1. Start your day with a cup of coffee (or tea or hot water) from a mug or canteen that you love

How do you usually drink your coffee in the morning? Do you pour it into the first clean mug you find in your cabinet? Or do you go through a drive-thru coffee place on your way to work (if you have a job that hasn't gone virtual) and sip it from a paper cup?

Bring a little joy into your morning pick-me-up by choosing a mug or to-go cup that makes you happy every time you pick it up.

Don’t already own any that do that for you? Go on Amazon or Etsy and buy one! Some ideas for joy-inducing mugs are: ones with inspirational or funny quotes, a show or movie you love, cute illustrations, or photo collages of loved ones.

Are you the person who prefers to buy instead of making their coffee? No problem! Most places will gladly use your own to-go mug as long as you give them a heads-up beforehand.

2. Wear a little of your favorite color

When you wear something you love, you automatically feel a little bit better about your day (and yourself). Try making every outfit a little more joy-inducing by always including your favorite color in the mix.

This can be as extreme as deciding on a work “uniform” (the way Mark Zuckerberg does) or by mixing up the ways your color of choice appears in your wardrobe.

Some ideas for how to implement this: A piece of jewelry that has your color in it that can be worn daily, colorful eyeliner or lipstick, solid tops or patterned ones with pops of the color throughout, accessories in your color of choice.

3. Listen to an inspiring podcast

Once upon a time, I had a two-hour commute back and forth from work. At first it was awful, but then I discovered podcasts. It became my favorite part of my morning and afternoon commute and made the monotonous drive actually enjoyable.

While many of us aren't commuting to the office anymore because of COVID-19, listening to short podcast can still be a great way to bring a little joy into your daily life. There are plenty of inspiring, informative and motivational shows to choose from, and I've listed some of my favorites below!

Inspirational Podcasts:

Good Life Project

Oprah's Super Soul Conversations

TED Talks Daily

Informative Podcasts:

Optimal Living Daily

Side Hustle School

Freakonomics Radio

Motivational Podcasts:

Earn Your Happy with Laurie Harder

4. Do something kind for someone

The best way to bring joy into your life? By bringing joy into the life of others.

The great thing about this is that it can be as simple as holding a door open for someone or sending a friend a virtual $5 gift card to their favorite coffee shop, just because.

Compliment a random person’s outfit. Help a co-worker out with wording an email that they’re stressing about. The possibilities are endless for this one!

5. Name 3 things you are grateful for

Another surefire way to bring joy into your life is by taking a moment to think about things in your life you can be grateful for.

They can be as big as life events and loved ones, or as small as that awesome podcast you listened to on the way to work or the hot cup of coffee you drank that morning (out of your new favorite mug, of course).
