St. Louis's "original cupcake on wheels" anchors from Sarah's Cake Stop in Chesterfield, but the business's truck can be seen in a variety of regional spots via Sarah's Cake "Stops."
Jill Umbarger, owner of the bakery, says a strong fan base during 2010 spawned the idea to emulate other cities and create a new food scene.
"When we hit the road, it took a little patience, but we quickly found our niche," Jill says. "Most importantly, we found our fans and lots of them!"
She says they experienced a slightly different take on the, “If you build it, they will come,” concept.
"We found, 'If you bake it (and bring it), they will come.'"
Jill says their objective is to make customers' lives a little sweeter by making fresh-baked cupcakes and specialty desserts available in convenient locations.
"Our truck can be booked for corporate functions, special events or parties—and we promise to make it all a memorable time for your guests," Jill says.
- Gooey butter cake with a dollop of cream cheese frosting, of course, is a daily offering—it is the St. Louis area, after all!
- Cupcakes—with more than 150 flavors, they mix up the combination offered through a daily selection of five to six rotating flavors.
- Decadent, chocolate brownies topped with frosting and pieces, such as cookies and cream or Reese’s are always offered.
- Gourmet cookies are large enough to share—or not!
- Moist cake slices, with wedding cake (traditional almond cake layered with almond buttercream), are offered daily; on occasion, they also offer chocolate cake slices layered with a chocolate milk crumb crunch and chocolate buttercream.
For autumn fanfare, Jill says customers can look for pumpkin cupcakes and, perhaps, a new caramel apple cider.
