Tennyson Jacobson knows what it means to help people achieve their goals. She owned a Crossfit gym for eight years, where she helped clients connect with what was most important to them. Now, she helps people protect what’s most precious to them through Farmers Insurance.
When she initially considered the insurance business, she wasn’t sure it was for her.
“One of our members, who is a district manager for Farmers, reached out and thought that I would be a great fit to own an agency. I honestly was not really interested at first as I had this interpretation of the insurance industry being unethical,” she says.
“The agency that was for sale was in the town that I grew up in, which was super cool. Needless to say, everything kept falling together so seamlessly, that the only thing holding me back was worried I would enjoy it.”
Two years later, Jacobsen runs her own agency and loves what she does. She says she realized “just how much it truly is all about helping people. That is what I loved about our gym (and also my time as a nutrition coach while we owned the gym), and it really is no different with insurance!”
Her approach to business comes down to the golden rule: “We believe in loving others and treating others how we would want to be treated.”
When it comes to insurance, as with many things in life, she says knowledge is power.
“I am an advisor, so I have recommendations for each client and their unique needs, but I will always educate you on why those are my recommendations. 100% of the people I have talked to have had insurance before, but I would say 90% have never had a simple conversation with their insurance provider on what their coverages actually mean.”
She uses her ability to connect with people on a personal level — which made her a successful fitness coach — to help clients choose an insurance they feel good about.
“People really value learning about it (simply... not boring them to death!) and feeling like they now understand it,” she says.
In a short period of time, she’s managed to help many people in her community.
“While we are in a very serious industry, we still have fun and take care of our clients like family.”
2019 was her first full year as an insurance agent. There are 535 agents in Washington State, and she finished #27 in sales for personal lines. For 2020, she’s now #12 in the state and #1 in her district.
“We love helping new home buyers understand insurance and educate on how insurance protects them,” she says. “Most people have no idea what their insurance covers or if they have the appropriate coverage. I love making it simple and easily understood while also allowing them to alter things they may want to additionally or not need at all.”
