Escape to Whitefish, Montana

Small-Town Charm Meets World-Class Recreation in This Winter Destination

“In the mountains of Montana, we forget to count the days.”

There’s a quote that reads, “In the mountains of Montana, we forget to count the days.” The beauty of the Rocky Mountains is truly something that makes time stand still—the grandness of nature brings a stillness and peace that can’t really be described; only experienced. Confirming this thought, studies show that 80 percent of first-time visitors to Montana come back again and again. Bellevue Lifestyle recently visited Whitefish, Montana, and discovered a place where small-town charm still lives, yet world-class recreation and amenities exist year round. Whether a romantic getaway, friends trip or family fun, Whitefish offers something for everyone. Flying from Seattle takes only one hour, and the hustle and bustle of our city quickly leaves you as you fly into the beauty and awe of the Rocky Mountains overlooking Glacier National Park.

Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort is the hub of activity during the winter, with a myriad of different activities to choose from. The terrain is more than 3,000 acres and gets an average snowfall of 333 inches. Known as a place where people come to escape crowds, the hassles and pressures of everyday life in an unhurried, easy-going atmosphere—not to mention the quality of snow is some of the best in the nation.

While not doing outdoor activities, find time to relax and get pampered at the spa at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. After your spa service, soak in the incredible views, take a dip in the hot tub, and stay for a meal at The Boat Club.

While there are more than 200 lodging options in the area of Whitefish, opt for something truly special and unique at Snow Bear Lodge, voted by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 places to stay in the world. These treehouse lodges are located directly on the ski resort; literally ski out your door for a day of fun on the mountain.

If you spend the day downtown, any local will tell you not to miss breakfast at Swift Creek Café or a bite of world-famous pie from Loula’s. Find live music most nights of the week and fun shopping along Central Avenue. Be sure to check the events calendar (or ask any local) and join in on one of their many winter traditions—including the penguin plunge, torchlight parade, skijoring and more.

While our area has beautiful Northwest charm and activities all of its own, Montana offers an entirely different experience. Discover a special retreat from the city, and make new memories in a place where you “forget to count the days.”
