Perhaps the most challenging aspect of staying at The Inn at Perry Cabin is what to choose among its countless offerings of fun, dining, and activities. Nestled along the Chesapeake Bay in the charming town of St. Michael’s on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the Inn occupies 26 acres overlooking the Miles River. One option would be to shed one’s luggage and join other guests at 5 p.m. at the Inn’s Pointe. There you can toast the flag out front with a glass of cheer, echoing the Navy battle cry of the War of 1812: “Don’t Give Up the Ship."
Following this daily ritual you can relax with a drink on the patio with a fire pit or sit in one of the many Adirondack chairs enjoying the calming waterfront. Gregory James, the Inn’s executive chef, has been there since 2019 using his experience and expertise to create an entirely new guest dining experience. He has won countless accolades and awards during his 30 years in the culinary business. In 2022 he received the “Chef of the Year” award from the Restaurant Association of Maryland.
Chef Greg is a strong believer in using ingredients sourced locally— including seafood from local waterways, regional dairy farm cheese, neighboring vegetable gardens, as well as the Inn’s very own bounty. The well-regarded chef focuses on a sustainable approach to modern cuisine – once oysters are used the shells get thrown back into the bay. He has also established close relationships with local farmers, artisans, and watermen. When the fishermen at Wittman’s Wharf from Annapolis come in with their daily catch, the first person they call is Chef Greg, who then serves it to lucky diners later that same day.
