This year on May 12, we'll be celebrating our moms and maternal figures for Mother's Day. I have been a mom for 21 years, and since my kids are now in their 20s and teens, Mother’s Day looks quite different from when they were younger. We’re able to get out of the house and hit the town, without having to worry about nap times, eating schedules and the occasional tantrum. As a person who values quality time over gifts, my ideal Mother’s Day looks like getting to spend time with my family, and also being able to visit a few of my favorite Denver places. I’ve compiled a list of Mother’s Day ideas that can be easily customized to fit the interests of the mom that you’re celebrating, and they can also be easily done with or without your kiddos in tow.
Hearth
I’m a firm believer that the best way to start any day is with a good cup of coffee. One of my favorite coffee spots in Denver is Hearth Coffee and Bakery located in RINO. This corner shop serves up quality coffee and tea drinks along with drool-worthy pastries, made in-house. My go-to order at Hearth is an oat milk latte and one of their raspberry white chocolate scones.
Petals and Pages
After coffee, head over to one of my favorite bookstores in Denver. Petals and Pages is not only a bookstore, but also a flower shop and community space. They also sell beautiful home decor items and delicious treats. It’s the perfect spot to browse books and purchase a bouquet of flowers, and you’re even encouraged to stay awhile and do some reading if the mood hits you.
Leven Deli
When your stomach starts growling, head over to Leven Deli in Golden Triangle. Leven not only offers fantastic food and drinks, but the space is an absolute stunner with tall, open ceilings and an abundance of beautiful plants. Don’t skip their famous pastrami Reuben on freshly baked rye bread.
La Lovely Vintage
After lunch, enjoy a long walk on Broadway, and stop into the shops to browse vintage, books and vinyl. I always pop into La Lovely Vintage when I’m in the area. They have a great selection of women’s and men's clothing and a huge denim section. You’ll also find plants, candles, jewelry, metaphysical supplies and other unique items.
Ti Cafe
To wrap up the day, you might be craving a sweet treat, or an afternoon pick-me-up, so I highly suggest heading into Ti Cafe. This Vietnamese coffee shop features delicious drinks like Vietnamese Egg Coffee, Pandan Matcha Latte and Salted Caramel Espresso Kem. Be sure to grab a Taro Mooncake or Red Bean Sesame Ball to pair with your drink.
