Dear Readers,
I want to take a moment to talk to you about something that is very close to our hearts: K9 officers and their handlers. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Gulf Shores Police Department's: Sgt. Ben Hancock & Mara, Sgt. Landon Coker & Flex, Officer Chris Childress & Cairo, Officer Stacy McElroy & Darlin', and Officer Shawn Andrews (aka The Chicken Hawk) & Edo. These amazing animals and the people who work with them are true heroes in every sense of the word.
K9 dogs are some of the most dedicated and loyal animals you'll ever meet (just ask Sgt. Ben Hancock). They are trained to perform a variety of tasks, from tracking down criminals to searching for missing persons and even detecting explosives. These dogs and handlers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.
The bond between a K9 dog and their handler is truly special. These two work together as a team, relying on one another to get the job done. They train together and live together. The love and dedication that these handlers have for their dogs are truly remarkable. As we go about our daily lives, it is easy to take for granted the sacrifices that these dogs and their handlers make on our behalf. But we must never forget the important role that they play in keeping us safe. They are the unsung heroes of law enforcement, and they deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We here at GCCL say Back The Blue and Their Canine's Too. So, to all the police K9s and their handlers out there, we say thank you. Thank you for your service, your dedication, and your unwavering loyalty. You are true heroes, and we are so grateful for everything you do.
