As lovers of home, we, at Design Shop Interiors, thrive during the holiday season. Curating a festive, yet familiar atmosphere is our expertise. We believe a home should be a place of warmth, comfort, and familiarity. This time of year, special touches like festive décor, scented candles, shimmering ornaments on a handpicked Christmas tree, and a table filled with hosting accessories add a touch of magic that can be felt throughout the home.

Here are some new ideas as well as time worn traditions to think about when planning your holiday home:

Try a minimalist approach to holiday décor. Partner brass candlesticks and fresh garlands; get creative with simple décor by pulling any décor, textiles, etc. that are red, green, or jewel toned and using them as decor. We love placing ribbon and ornaments in marble trays or vintage bowls to add a spark of festivity. Add stockings to your fireplace mantle - our favorites are vintage kilim.

Our favorite holiday décor (it’s hard to pick) are ornaments and candles. Our favorites are brass candlesticks or clear glass hurricanes.

Greenery truly elevates your home for the holidays. Garlands and pine branches.

Hang ornaments from ribbon on light fixtures.

We love a Christmas tree with cherished ornaments and an abundance of candles casting a warm glow with a great winter scent.

Handmade stockings with delicate ribbon, dried floral embellishments, fresh pine garlands, and an arrangement that thrives throughout the entire season.

Add coziness with beautiful throws with lots of layered texture.

More DSI tips for decorating your home for the holidays:

Step 1: Move around your furniture and place your tree or trees.  DSI will have 10 massive trees in the shop this year as part of their holiday decor.

Step 2: Deck the halls! Add and style all décor and details with traditional items or newfound pieces. Fill consoles and shelves with a simple accent or an overflow of festivity.

Step 3: Finish with floral installations around the home. Bring the outdoors inside with seasonal greens, florals, deep red vessels, and winter wreaths.

At DSI, our take on traditional Christmas is what we call vintage traditional. Coated in deep reds, layers and an assortment of vintage finds. Dishes, trays and platters you would sift through at your grandmother’s house. Nostalgic, traditional reds and greens, but deeper tones. Vintage antique brass tones give an old world feel. Think patina vintage bells. Ivory, deep reds and forest greens. This combination creates an elevated traditional Christmas.

Other great holiday themes are:

Mountain theme like Sierra Nevada or Truckee-inspired including pine cones, acorns, rustic accents, deep greens, reindeer, snow, and sleds.

Scandinavian style features light woods, bright whites, and ivories. Sprinkle in hints of black and lots of clean lines for an appealing and simple design.

Funky holiday theme can be wild and fun with a burst of color and mixed patterns. Play with the details using sparkly, bold, and worldly accents for a vintage-retro vibe. Add felt elements and animals for a touch of whimsy.

A feminine holiday theme can be pretty and soothing. Use earthy tones, light pastels, sage greens, and baby pinks in your color scheme. Sprinkle in delicate features, soft, etched dishware, feminine movement, velvets, and glass ornaments. Top it off with a glittery pink tree or a white tree with pink ornaments.

Elegant and traditional, a European Farmhouse style Christmas can be warm and cozy.  Use deep neutrals, browns, gem tones, and pieces that feel antiqued and layered. Add old world design with dark wood rocking horses and vintage nutcrackers.
