Laughter: The Best Medicine

A Comedy Night Fundraiser You Won’t Want to Miss

Do you need more laughter in your life? Do you love helping worthy causes? This month, you're in luck with the perfect event that combines both: a star-studded comedy show that benefits a local company's charitable foundation. "Laughter is the Best Medicine" is coming soon this month!

Window World is a national company based in North Carolina whose CEO Tammy Whitworth started the Window World Cares Foundation with her late husband in 2008. They chose to partner with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital when their oldest child was born prematurely and spent extended time in the hospital. Through that experience, Whitworth became acutely aware of how taxing concern for a child's health can be on a family.

Local company franchise owners, Martin and Debbie Bomba, who operate locations in San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Corpus Christi, lead the local charge to raise funds for this cause and have had some incredible success over the years through various means.

Martin and Debbie have been in the business for over 30 years and have owned their Window World locations for over two decades. For 11 of those years, they held an annual golf tournament at Canyon Springs Golf Course to raise funds for the Window World Cares Foundation. Then two years ago, they heard about an alternative idea from some friends of theirs in Cincinnati, Ohio who had held a comedy night as a fundraiser that had proven to be popular and successful.

So Martin and Debbie decided to pursue that avenue and in 2022, they held their inaugural comedy night, titled "Laughter Is the Best Medicine." It was such a huge success that they raised double the amount of money for their best year of golf tournaments. That convinced them they were headed in the right direction and decided to continue the show this year.

It is going to be an evening you won't want to miss with Cleto Rodriguez hosting comedians Roman Garcia and others. In addition to the laughter, there will be wine tastings, an exciting live auction, and silent auction items up for bids. In the event you aren't able to make it, you can still join in on some of the fun and take part in bidding on the auction items from the comfort of your own laptop through their website.

"The most enjoyable part for Debbie and I is just giving back to our community. We are committed to this children's charity, St. Jude, because of the remarkable work they do with children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses at no cost to the families. In addition, they have made amazing strides in medical research that they willingly share with other entities to help others." One hundred percent of St. Jude's funding comes from donors so they are free to focus on saving lives. Every child that goes to St. Jude, regardless of race, ethnicity, or economic status is treated at no cost. To date, Window World Cares Foundation has donated over $14 million to St. Jude's Research Hospital.

The future of Window World is looking bright as they will be visiting with everyone that makes it out to the Comal County Fair as well as having a brand new line of windows out this month available at all three of their locations.

Giving back isn't anything new to Martin and Cindy at Window World either. They take part in fundraising for Veterans organizations as well and their most recent fundraiser was with the All Veterans Group, an organization that helps members of the community tandem skydive. As part of the AVG's Hometown Heroes program, one of the few remaining World War II veterans from Lytle, Texas took part in a tandem jump as part of his 100th birthday celebration. This event was used to raise funds for the Veteran's Airlift Command, an organization that assists veterans and their families with private flights to get needed medical care or to see family members at no cost to the veterans.

"Laughter is the Best Medicine" will be held this coming October 21, at Pedrotti's Ranch in Helotes. To reserve tickets, visit windowworldtx.com/funny.
