Self-care has become one of the hottest buzzwords in our vocabulary, but how do we practice it?

Probably one of the best ways to treat yourself to a little self-care is by getting a massage and experimenting with different styles of massage. This Valentine’s Day, give the gift of pampering yourself at Moonchild Thai Spa in West Hartford.

Piyada Phunsawat, who opened the massage studio on Raymond Road last July, focuses on several types of massage: Thai traditional, aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage, Himalayan salt stone, and many more. The type of massage you choose, she says, should be determined by what best suits your body or needs.

“I combine all my knowledge and experiences for the Moonchild signature massage, which is crafted for each client’s needs at the moment.” She combines both eastern and western philosophies in her spa care.

“I focus on the more subtle energy of the body spiritually, versus what’s just on the surface or the physical aspects.”

Thai massage is a full-body experience that involves applying deep pressure when the masseuse uses their full body strength during a session. That means the massage therapist may walk or kneel over a client to create the deepest pressure they can safely apply to your body.

Unlike traditional massage therapies, Thais massage does not include the use of oil, and clients remain clothed during their sessions. The goal of Thai massage is to improve mobility and circulation.

Piyada has over a decade of experience as a masseuse and worked abroad before opening her own studio here in West Hartford. Born and raised in Thailand, she says she learned Thai traditional massage with some of the best therapist masters.

She’s studied both abroad and in Connecticut and has a variety of experiences within the industry.

“I’m so grateful and fortunate to get to do what I love for my job.”
