More Than a Dental Checkup

One dentist is adding tools to the beauty toolbox in a unique way

When Dr. Barton Foutz, DDS began his career in dentistry, he never imagined one day it would include offering Botox and cosmetic fillers to enhance the patient experience.

“I’ve been treating the picture (the teeth) for 35 years; now, it’s nice to be able to treat the frame (lips, face, and surrounding musculature)” said Dr. Foutz.

For more than just aesthetics, Botox can effectively treat a variety of ailments: migraines and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). “Botox gives us another tool in the arsenal to treat that, " said Dr. Foutz.

Dr. Foutz, of Foutz Family Dentistry, has been treating patients cosmetically since 2016. “You can’t divorce the aesthetic from the function,” says Dr. Foutz. “Patients may come in for a functional need, like a twitch in the neck, a headache, or sore muscles in the jaw and love the cosmetic results also.”

It makes sense to put your trust in the care of a licensed and trained professional, especially one who uses tools around the face and mouth daily.

With Dr. Foutz, patients are examined carefully. “I do a physical exam, talk over the patient’s desires and goals. Especially with headaches, to figure out what happens when I press here or there to determine where I put the Botox,” said Dr. Foutz.

Knowing patients’ anatomy helps Dr. Foutz to make recommendations for their treatment plan. Along with the exam, he wants the patients to be comfortable during procedures. By using new, sharp needles for the injection, distraction devices, and even sometimes numbing the area before, he is able to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

In addition to Botox, he can use dermal fillers that plump up areas that have lost volume from natural aging and PDO threads that can smooth or lift. “They are threads that dissolve to make more of your own collagen. These are good for use in places where you can’t place injections,” said Dr. Foutz.

Whichever service you choose, Dr. Foutz wants you to look and feel your best. He concludes, “If you’re going to have it done, we want you to look as natural and refreshed as possible!”
