Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, holidays or just because — flowers are a timeless gift for any occasion. But more than that, flowers are often a representation of one's emotions and personality. This is something that Seifert's Flower Mill owner, Rita Hoagland, believes in wholeheartedly.
"I love the design process of making a floral arrangement for someone," says Rita. " I am able to express my customers' feelings through floral arrangements and it is really special."
Rita has been a florist since opening the flower shop with her dad in 1975. She says, "My dad had a feed store at the time but there were no more cattle in Jackson Township, so he knew he had to do something else. At the time, I was a senior in high school and he asked if I wanted to open a flower shop with him. Right after graduation, I went to school for floral design and learned the basics."
In 1990, Rita took the business over completely and has run it with her family ever since. Now, she and her team of florists — currently 14 — continue the family legacy of providing North Canton, Canton, Massillon, Canal Fulton, Green, Uniontown, Louisville and Jackson Township with high-quality floral arrangements and gifts that make a lasting impact.
Rita says, "You really grow up with your customers. After they get married, you often get to do the flowers for their children's baptisms and birthday parties."
Rita explains that a key part of her design process is communication with her customers, which is why they return time and time again. She says. "We create much more than generic floral arrangements that are offered through third-party online floral shops. While we can create those, I find that talking directly with someone and making a very personal arrangement for them is much more rewarding for both of us."
As more and more third-party online floral shops pop up, Rita and her team prioritize attending various courses. This has allowed them to stay up-to-date on popular trends and relevant design styles.
Seifert's offers year-round floral design services, but Rita explains that the shop's most popular one-day holiday is Mother's Day. However, she also says that November and December are her team's busiest times of year because they are fulfilling seasonal orders for local families, businesses and churches. Rita even flies down to Florida for a week in December to provide seasonal floral design services to a long-term client.
