My husband and I sold our home a year ago and moved full-time into a 37-foot-long fifth-wheel trailer. Over the past year, we've stayed at some great RV parks, but two of my favorites are a short drive from North Peoria: River Sands RV Resort in Ehrenberg, AZ, and Coachella Lakes RV Resort in Coachella, CA.
Both RV resorts allow you to get close to nature and offer plenty of activities to entertain the entire family while enjoying the luxuries of home.
Coachella Lakes RV Resort
Coachella Lakes RV Resort (CoachellaLakesRVResort.com) is brand new, offering state-of-the-art amenities. Hands down, this was one of my favorite stays because it was easy and comfortable. The RV sites are huge, and the majority are pull-through spaces. You can rent a vacation cabin if you want to check it out but don't have an RV.
Beyond the basics, there's a lot to keep you busy while staying at Coachella Lakes RV Resort. The weekend we stayed, the park was filled with families all enjoying time together—riding bikes, swimming, playing pickleball, or hanging out on the splash pad. You can also find a world-class 18-hole putting course, a state-of-the-art fitness center, walking paths, and delightful hot tubs.
The clubhouse is gorgeous, making it an ideal spot to relax with a glass of wine or catch up on email. The game room was always filled with fun activities during our stay.
Things to Do Near Coachella Lakes RV Resort
Part of Greater Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley is the home base for many music and art festivals. There's also plenty to do in Palm Springs and the surrounding areas. You must explore The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, about 30 miles west of the RV resort. Nearby Joshua Tree National Park is known for its unique trees and rock formations.
One of our favorite finds was Twelve, the rooftop bar at Fantasy Springs Resort, a 6-minute drive from Coachella Lakes. One night, we went to the lounge before dinner and enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sun dip behind the San Jacinto Mountains.
River Sands RV Resort
River Sands RV Resort (RiverSandsRVResort.com) is another new RV resort situated on the banks of the Colorado River in Ehrenberg, AZ, less than three hours from North Peoria.
If you're looking for a fun place for tubing this summer, River Sands is your spot. Once you park your RV—or rent one of the cabins—walk to the private beach with river access.
The River Sands community offers the same amenities as Coachella Lakes, without the putting course, but with the Colorado River as a focal point. The clubhouse offers comfy seating indoors and out, overlooking the river. During our stay, there was a cornhole tournament followed by smores.
Nearby Attractions
There's plenty of great fishing and fun in the river, or head out into the desert with your ATVs for off-roading fun.
We drove 18 miles to nearby Quartzsite, one of the quirkiest towns in Arizona, filled with dozens of gem and mineral shops. It was a great afternoon excursion.
You might not be ready to head out in your RV full-time, but getting away for a long weekend is an ideal way to unwind and reconnect with family and friends.
