Foyers are the first impression as your guests enter your home. How do you want them to feel? Those first few seconds after they’ve been invited in can make an impression. Welcome them to your home happily with a few considerations that we take when designing foyers for our clients:
Coordinate: Ensure the foyer design is consistent with the overall style of your home by incorporating the colors and finishes of the adjacent rooms into the foyer. Infuse the space with items that reflect your unique style, and to what’s to come as they enter the rest of the home.
Light it up: Statement chandeliers that can be seen from the street not only improve your curb appeal, but they can also add sparkle and interests for high ceilings. We love to see a lamp in the foyer. This time of year, there’s something magical about a lamp glowing from the front door welcoming all home.
Clear Pathways & Storage: Regardless of size, your foyer should be functional with wide open pathways. You’ll want to keep at least 36" clear for a major walkway, so if there’s not space for a furniture piece or bench, opt for art or wallpaper. If possible, add a furniture piece with storage so you’ll gain another place to store items as well as a place for guests to keep things when they visit.
Seasonal updates: As the weather outside changes, consider swapping decor elements to keep the space fresh and inviting. Use a pleasant fragrance through candles or diffusers so your home will smell amazing right as you or your guests enter.
Make a statement: Foyers tend to be smaller rooms with tall ceilings, so we opt to select large statement art or a mirror which will balance the space instead of overwhelming it with many smaller pieces. It makes a great impact.
