Introduction

Fascia is a tissue and topic that for a long time was ignored and overlooked. At R3 Physio, we understand that our fascia is intricately involved throughout the body and through out multiple systems in the body affecting everything from mobility to systemic functions like digestion and lymphatic drainage.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a type of tissue that we have in our bodies that surrounds all of the structures in our body: muscles, nerves, organs, arteries/veins, and more! There are many roles that fascia has including; it actively influences movement, force distribution, fluid dynamics within the body, influence on the nervous system, and even the immune system!

Fascia's Role in Systemic Health

Fascia’s role in the nervous system is one that is relatively new to our understanding, but it has always been there. The majority of the nerve endings that innervate our fascia are from the Sympathetic Nervous System. Healthy fascia supports the balance between the parasympathetic (rest and digest) and sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous systems, leading to improved stress management, better movement quality, and reduced pain.

How R3 Physio Approaches Fascia

At R3 Physio, our focus is on diagnosing and treating fascial restrictions that compromise health and mobility. We utilize advanced manual therapy techniques, including visceral manipulation, to release fascial tensions, thereby enhancing blood flow, boosting lymphatic drainage, and improving neuromuscular function.
