Kids eat with their eyes, not just their tummies.

Choosing what to serve our little ones can be stressful as we have to consider not only the nutritional value of the food we prepare, but also how to encourage kids to actually eat what is put in front of them. Some of the first things a child will notice about their meal are color, shape, texture, and portion size...long before taste plays a role in their decision.

Finding interesting ways to present a child's food may help them overcome objections and think about their food in another light. By using creative characters or recognizable shapes and animals, foods can be embraced rather than avoided. 

These recipes offer healthy options for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and will have your kids smiling...and ready to clear their plates. 

Not Your Average Toast

Turn a quick and easy breakfast favorite or snack into a work of art. Customize based on your little one's preferences. Look for 100% whole grain bread options. Top with cream cheese, almond butter, peanut butter, or your child's favorite spread, then decorate with blueberries, strawberries, and bananas to create a cute character. 

Under the Sea...But Tastes Like Chicken

A nutrient-rich, colorful lunch or dinner option. Chicken meatballs offer a yummy variation from the typical nugget, encouraging kids to try new textures and shapes. Use a starch for the sea floor, such as rice, quinoa, or even pasta. Fresh veggies add splashes of color to the sea life scene and pack a diverse nutrient punch. 

Pasta with a Twist

Any kind of noodle will work for creating this adorable little chick, including rice noodles, whole grain pasta, or (for a low carb option) spaghetti squash. Toss with your favorite sauce and decorate with cherry tomatoes, black olives, and your choice of green and orange veggies to bring the bird to life.
