While it may be February, we are still pretty brand new in the New Year. As I start winding down from bursting out the gate with tackling goals in the New Year, organizing my house is still high-priority on my to-do list! From clothes and shoes, accessories, my son’s overwhelming amount of toys (he’s way too spoiled by the family), to even unnecessary items that have built up in the back of my trunk—decluttering just makes me feel better.

I’ve turned to a few options when it comes to deciding where all of this clutter should go. When it comes to my son’s toys, clothes, and shoes—I either find a family member or friend who has a child that can use the items. If not, I always take it to the Goodwill. As for my items, I split up them into two piles. One that can go to the Goodwill, and another that can make money.

Earn a Few Bucks

Follow my page on PoshMark, where I’ve started posting clothes, shoes, and purses to sell. So far, so good! I’ve sold a few items. I used to see the commercial and have other friends who have tried the app and saw success, so I said 'why not?'

Don’t want to sell online? Try selling to stores such as Plato’s Closet or Buffalo Exchange. A store that accepts children’s clothing (and toys, bedding, strollers, etc.) is Once Upon A Child.

Another way to make money includes putting up items for a garage sale. Depending on which way the wind blows in Kansas City, weather here can be unpredictable. I recommend waiting until the spring/summer to host a garage sale. Last year, my family and I held a garage sale that paid for our entire trip to Branson!

Get Organized

Furthermore, don’t forget to clean out drawers! Clean out any drawers used for old mail, old notes, or just anything unneeded. I have two drawers in my kitchen that serve as—who am I kidding? They’re a mess! I have instructions, recipes, birthday cards, and so much more junk in them. Getting a plastic bin to organize the cards I want to keep, recipes that are meaningful, and instructions I’ll actually use has been extremely beneficial.

Amazon, Walmart, and Target – even stores such as Family Dollar, Dollar General, and the Dollar Tree are great for purchasing plastic bins that vary in size. Another option to store items such as clothes are the plastic bags that once zipped, you can vacuum out the air to make the bag as flat as possible. I used to do this when I would come back home from school and needed to stuff my suitcases with as much as I could. Amazon, Walmart, and Target are great options for purchasing the plastic bags.

All in all, decluttering can be good for not only making a few bucks, but also having a better organized home where one can find what they’re looking for!
