In a world more disconnected than ever, kindness changes everything.
In the Jewish tradition - it is known as Tzedakah. From an early age, my parents taught me that contribution is key. It's not about grand gestures, but about showing up for others in small, consistent ways. I've brought this philosophy to my own kids; the world can be changed for the better—one act at a time. When we contribute, we not only help others but also discover the best parts of ourselves.
I am a take action person. What value I give now is in giving others actionable steps to shift mindset and make a difference. We are all so busy, it is easy to get overwhelmed.
Here's something we can all try right now: I challenge you to 12 Days of Kindness.
Once you start committing to this process, your practice of kindness becomes a natural part of your day.
1. Give a Sincere Compliment
Compliments can brighten someone’s day. You never know how your words might inspire them to pass that kindness on to others.
2. Leave a Positive Review for a Small Business
Small businesses are the heart of our communities. A positive review takes just minutes, but can make a big difference in boosting their visibility and helping them thrive.
3. Donate Books to a Library or School
Books open doors to new worlds and ideas. Donating them gives others the chance to learn and grow while helping you declutter.
4. Buy Groceries for a Neighbor or the Elderly
Offering to buy groceries or help with a task is a simple way to make someone’s life easier, especially for those who may need extra support.
5. Send a Thank You Note to a Local Service Worker
Our service workers keep everything running smoothly. A handwritten note is a powerful reminder that their hard work is appreciated.
6. Donate Unneeded Items
Look around your home for clothes, books, or household items you no longer use. Donating them gives them new life and helps others in need.
7. Jackpotting a Waiter or Waitress
Give your server a 100 percent tip with a kind note. This gesture of generosity can completely brighten their day.
8. Leave Encouraging Notes in Random Places
Leave notes on a bathroom mirror, a park bench, or inside a book to spread joy.
9. Donate Toys or Food to an Animal Shelter
Help shelters care for animals in need. Whether it’s toys or food, every little bit makes a difference in their well-being.
10. Share Your Knowledge
Offer to help someone by sharing a skill or knowledge. Whether mentoring at work or teaching a new hobby, you can make a lasting impact.
11. Be Kind to Yourself
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Give yourself grace and remember that being kind to yourself allows you to be kinder to others.
12. Encourage a Stranger
Sometimes, a simple “You’re doing great” can make a huge difference in someone’s day.
The Ripple Effect of Kindness
You never know the long-term impact of your kindness. The hug you give, the compliment you share, or the time you spend could change someone’s trajectory. One small act can create quite a ripple.
You will see these small acts make a difference. When you change, the world around you changes too.
Start with 12 days and watch as kindness transforms your life and the lives of others. The world needs your kindness.
