A PERFECT DAY SWIMMING, SKIPPING ROCKS + HAVING A PICNIC

Article by Emily Woods

The kids said today was “the best day EVER” as we took a little road trip to The Narrows of the Harpeth. We started with a very short hike (1/3 mile) up to the bluff which had amazing views! We headed down after that to the “historic tunnel," featured in the photos, where we spent most of the day. We want to climb in it on our next trip.

The kids swam, skipped rocks and explored, and then we ate a picnic lunch! It was super shaded and the water felt amazing. We took another short hike to the other side of the Harpeth after that and saw several canoes from Foggy Bottom Canoe rental float by! Narrows of the Harpeth is just a short drive from Franklin (25 minutes) so we will definitely do this adventure several times this summer.

I consider spots like this a treasure because my kids don’t mind the short hike and it’s fun for the whole family. I avoid long hikes because we all know what it’s like to have an unhappy kiddo! This was a super fun day and we look forward to finding and sharing more spots like this! As we left we noticed a huge sunflower field on the way home!

We will definitely go back to this area — we passed so many places to eat on the way! My suggestions are bring: towels, water shoes, snacks or lunch, and bug spray.

Have fun!
