17th Annual Pedal The Cause

Anyone Can 'Ride' To End Cancer, Sept. 19-20, Assures PTC's Eleanor Goedeke

WHAT IS PEDAL THE CAUSE?

"It's a charity bike ride (not a race) and community celebration that funds local cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital. 100% of participant-raised donations seed, speed and lead cutting-edge cancer research. To date, we've raised more than $56 million, creating a real impact in fighting cancer."

HOW TO GET INVOLVED/HELP:

"Pick a route, establish a fundraising page, share the link and show up in September. There's a finish-line festival with food and live music. Most riders wouldn't call themselves cyclists; they're individuals who want to help people facing cancer. In addition to riding, register to volunteer or support at PedalTheCause.org."

WHO ORGANIZES THE EVENT?

"Pedal the Cause is an independent nonprofit organization, started in St. Louis during 2010 by two-time cancer survivor Bill Koman and his wife Amy. We operate year-round with a staff of nine and 32 board of directors. Staffers seek corporate sponsors so all funds raised by our riders can go directly to cancer research."

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR ACTUAL EVENT:

"PTC 2026 features seven course options (six road; one gravel), a signature Spin Zone, an Inspired virtual participation and Kids Challenge for youths 3-13. This year's event will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20. Saturday morning is devoted to the Kids Challenge. Saturday evening from 4-7 p.m. includes 'Taste The Cause' top-tier food and desserts plus live music. At 6:40 p.m., a procession of cancer survivors, thrivers and fighters walk through the crowd. Inspiring speakers start at 7 p.m.; fireworks close the night at 8 p.m.

On Sunday morning, a breakfast bar is offered 6-10 a.m. Beginning at 7 a.m. cyclists start at assigned times for all routes. An outdoor spin session at the venue is held while road riders are out. A post-ride lunch and celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music and PTC merchandise are available until 3 p.m."

WHERE WILL THESE ACTIVITIES OCCUR?

"All outside at St. Charles Family Arena. For questions, call 314.787.1990 or email info@pedalthecause.org."
