HIKING WITH KIDS

Article by Kelly Coleman

As it turns out, if you’re going to be in quarantine with four kids still at home, Arizona is a pretty great place to do it.

While the rest of the world is completely shut down, it’s spring time in the desert! And it is so beautiful. While we are being responsible and maintaining proper social distance, the kids and I have found such peace and relief in this beautiful desert we call home.

We have hiked new trails, most of them less traveled and popular, to avoid any crowds. This week we ventured up to Cave Creek to this hidden gem. It is called the Jewel of the Desert or Spur Cross Trail. With three little kids we hiked about a mile out and stumbled upon flowing water. Flowing water in the desert! Tell me that’s not a bright spot in the day.

We took off our shoes and socks and enjoyed the crisp water on our feet. We skipped rocks across the water and collected a few as well.

Life is what we make of it. We are choosing new adventures.

Stay Safe,

Kelly
