Now that the US population is living longer it makes one want to do more to live healthier every day and age well. In honor of Men’s Health Month, I want to talk about the importance of prevention and early detection. The top two leading causes of death for men are heart disease and cancer. The top 5 prevention steps you can take can help prevent both.

1. Healthy weight, going lean with good muscle mass

2. Eating clean with the low glycemic Mediterranean diet

3. Regular daily exercise

4. Don’t smoke or do drugs

5. Get your annual physical and screening tests

These simple lifestyle changes can help prevent the top 2 leading causes of death for men but possibly the top 10: Heart Disease, Cancer, Unintentional Injuries, Stroke, COPD, Diabetes, Influenza and Pneumonia and lastly, Suicide.
