One of my favorite memories from childhood was my seventh grade plant project. I spent half the school year outside finding and learning about all the different flowers, trees and shrubs growing in my area — collecting specimens, pressing them in a plant press my uncle made, and mounting them on card stock along with information such as the scientific names and growing conditions. I framed some of them, and that sparked my love for botanical artwork.
This is a great way to bring nature into your home without the pressure of actually keeping something alive. Drawings, paintings and photography are all great ways to capture the beauty of plants, and give an appreciative nod to the early illustrations that were so important to our scientific documentation and knowledge.
